Our time in Nsoko,
after St. Lucia has been pretty slow. Most of the community is on summer break,
and schools aren’t in session. Many of the people around here are spending time
at home or away with their families for the holidays. This past week we did
what we call an ATL or ask the Lord. We ask the Lord to lead us and don’t move
until someone is told where to go or at least which direction to head. This
time we were led to a homestead where the Gogo (grandmother) was obviously
pretty sick. In Swazi culture, guests are always made to feel welcome. We
walked into their home, a stick and mud shelter with a concrete floor and the
best the Gogo could do was to sit up. We talked for a little while with her
daughter and grandson that were visiting from South Africa and we asked about
how she was feeling. This continued until we asked if we could pray for her
before we left. We did for a few minutes and then Jon asked if we could lay
hands on her and pray for her healing. She said of course. So we all moved
around her and began to pray. Our prayers were different, our spirits and faith
were now different. We prayed for her to be completely healed, for her job to
still be waiting for her to return to it (work at a local citrus plant), and
safe travels for her daughter and grandson back to South Africa. After we were
done we said our goodbyes and all headed outside. We were only outside a minute
or two and she asked Innocent, one of our translators to come back to talk to
her. She told him that all of her demons were now gone, that she could feel the
weight taken off of her, and that she already felt better than she had in some
time. Praise the Lord and I can’t wait to go back to see her and her family
again!
