Hey everyone! I was working on a blog last night and now my computer won’t turn on again. This happened in Mexico and it worked a few days later so no reason to freak out, it’s just frustrating. I have to remind myself that this is Africa, I’m in Swaziland. Things happen differently here.
We are being taught to at any time give a reason for our faith. That translates to being able to preach or teach a children’s bible story, or a women’s bible lesson in five minutes or less notice. THIS IS AFRICA (TIA). A few days ago we were at a care point and Pastor Gift says to our group, “I’m going to pick on someone”, “you, (pointing to me) I’m going to pick on you. Come here a moment.” He told all the children to sit down and then prayed for me and told me to tell a children’s bible story, “it can be anything David and Goliath, Noah’s Ark, you choose”. Nxgolisi, I really have no idea how to spell his name and it has a click in it to make it more complicated, anyway he was translating for me, saw I was a little nervous and told me “tell David and Goliath, that’s a good one”. So I told the story while he translated. The other day we were having a women’s group meeting and were asked to share a message, with five minutes’ notice. So Lila shared about Paul and how nothing that we do can separate us from the love of Christ. Its teaching us to rely on God in ways we’ve never had to before.
Then last night two of my teammates (Jessica and Lila) went with Nxgolisi to help deliver a baby…in the back of a car. TIA.

Here is part of what I emailed a few people about what we are doing in Nsoko. “I was sitting at the clinic yesterday and looked out the horizon to see the beauty that is Swaziland. The mountains and the GREEN fields were all before me. I loved Mexico but I love this place already as well. We are starting our ministry stuff soon. Everyone will be assisting each other when needed but everyone has their own “baby” part of the ministry. Jon’s is creating a youth group. Bryan’s is care point ministry, where the kids go to get a meal every day and he will be teaching some bible stories, so kind of VBSish. Jess’ is women’s ministry, there is an older and a younger group and Lila and I will be helping her out with that most of the time. Lila’s is administration. My ministry will focus around community education, teaching, people about personal hygiene, health, and finance issues (yeah I’ll need some help on that last part.) The health part will focus on HIV/AIDS and nutrition if possible. Pastor Gift told me that many people are asking for vitamins for the kids, and they really do need them.”
I hope all of you are well! To those of you that are finishing up the semester, good luck on finals! And to the teachers, Christmas will be here soon!
I love you all very much!
Kaite,
So exciting! I’m glad you guys are getting some practice at relying on the Lord to speak through you whenever the opportunity comes up. I’ll pray that He continues to give you the words and lead you by His Spirit. I’m so excited to see what else He has planned for you guys in Swazi.
Tell everyone I say hello!
Erin
They delivered a baby??!?! OMG. I’d be terrified. Way to go teaching David and Goliath though, did you bring in any of the VeggieTales, “God is bigger than the BoogieMan” type of stuff? I can’t wait to see all the pictures of Sawziland, you make it sound so beautiful.
LOVE YOU!!
Sarah
Katie this is so awesome to read your stories of Nsoko. I just got home today and was thinking about how much im going to miss the translators, and it was awesome to hear you talk about Mxolisi. Thank you!
